The title of this blog is a tribute (although with a little gender correction) to Hughes’ “Men and their work” with whom I share the conviction that for many people a job or occupation is a central component of the understanding of their lives. What is affirmed here is not a sort of workcentrism or workaholism that subsume every aspect of people’s life, but rather, that work is a privileged point of view to study and understand social phenomena. Therefore, the concept of work presented in People&theirWork is not merely that of paid labour; it is instead closer to the phenomenological definition given by Schutz of work as a series of acts of body or mind intended to influence the state of the world. Many different kinds of work are indeed represented in these pages! In particular, I give a close attention to the forms of organized work, which are, to me, the most interesting to study and the most meaningful for human experience.

The main page of the blog is OrganizationTheory&Practice I discuss topics relevant for academic researchers, practitioners and workers in organizations, in the attempt to bridge the different worlds. In EthnographicNotes, a diary of my experience as an organizational ethnographer is held. If you want to know more AboutMe&MyWork, please visit the related page.
